This amazing world plainly declares that the Universe, this planet, and all the life inhabiting it are the creation of a Divine Being. His power is unfathomable; His knowledge is clearly infinite, and His presence is universally inescapable. His character is utterly holy and good. He is just. He is love. He is God.
We should be living in a continuous state of awe. Who could have conceived the natural laws of physics? Who could have, for lack of a more potent verb, invented matter and the variety of elements that could be assembled in infinite ways, giving us both an inorganic and organic world that still baffles and inspires us? Who could animate it through the propagation of energy throughout the cosmos? The entirety of the physical realm obeys mathematics—clearly the work of a Genius Who is echelons beyond our feeble intellects. This God deserves our total devotion, obedience, admiration, love and worship.
And the evidence for God is not merely anecdotal. It is stupefying. Contrary to popular belief, the Universe did not make itself. But if God exists, why doesn’t He speak to us? Are we left to somehow piece it together about our origins ourselves? No, God is not silent. In fact, He has spoken loud and clear.
Part Two: God Is Not Silent
In theological circles, the truth that God reveals about Himself through nature is called general revelation or natural revelation. Both terms are used interchangeably.
